Montreal +145 over Toronto

Scotiabank Arena – Toronto, ON

7:00 PM ET. OT included. The Maple Leafs have spent the better part of a decade talking about “unfinished business.” This year, it’s not just unfinished — it’s starting to feel like the same script with a different cast. The Leafs open their 2025-26 campaign without Mitchell Marner, who was shipped off to Vegas after Toronto and the winger couldn’t agree on a long-term extension. It’s a loss that goes beyond 102 points; it’s a hit to the team’s identity, chemistry, and structure.

Toronto remains priced like the same old powerhouse, yet the cracks keep showing. They’re being asked to lay a tag at home with a retooled lineup, a new coach in Craig Berube, and a goaltending situation that borders on a comedy sketch. Joseph Woll is away from the team for personal reasons, leaving Anthony Stolarz as the starter and newly claimed Cayden Primeau — yes, the same Primeau who was waived twice this offseason — backing him up. If this is stability, then we’ll pass.

On the other side, Montreal enters the year as a team no one should sleep on. The Canadiens closed last season with a playoff appearance and a young core that’s getting better by the day. Nick Suzuki continues to develop into a top-tier two-way center, Cole Caufield is healthy, and Juraj Slafkovsky has grown into his frame and his confidence. The Habs also added some legit depth with Noah Dobson on the back end and Ivan Demidov up front, a kid with the kind of dynamic skill that keeps you leaning forward when he’s on the ice.

Martin St. Louis’ group plays loose, fast, and hungry — a stark contrast to Toronto’s polished but predictable approach. The Leafs have become the league’s poster child for “regular season success, playoff futility.” Now, without their most creative playmaker, they’re priced like they’re immune to regression. They’re not.

Take advantage of BET365's early MLB payout offer!

For straight bets, if the team you back to win goes 5 runs ahead at any stage during the game, BET365 will pay out your bet in full regardless of whether the opposition comes back to win the game.

For parlays and Same Game Parlays, if a team you have backed goes 5 runs ahead, this selection will be marked as won within My Bets, with the remaining selections left to run.

Here is a wager we were paid out early on that would eventually lose.
