Tampa Bay -1½ +145 over TORONTO

1:10 PM EST. It looks like Tampa will go with one of their patented “bullpen starts” so we’re not going to get into their starter because he’s likely only going to pitch an inning. This wager has nothing to do with backing Tampa’s starting pitching.  

The Blue Jays have been a competitive and fun team to watch this year and they have also proven to be a tough out. However, we’re going to target their starter as a prime fade target and trust the Rays to put up a crooked number.  

Trent Thornton (RHP - TOR) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Aug. 6, due to right elbow inflammation but the Jays said it wasn’t serious and he’ll be ready to go today. Thornton has pitched twice out of the ‘pen this year, covering just five innings. Last year, his results may not have warranted a full season of starts, but it's not like Toronto had many better ideas. Thornton did shake off some early control woes, which didn't jibe with his minor league history. He walked three batters in his five innings or work this year. Dude is simply very hittable, yielding lots of havoc-wreaking line drives and fly balls. His overall numbers further dim hopes there's a next level he can get to, so seek value elsewhere. Trent Thornton is not MLB ready.
