Vegas +175 over Colorado

Play off Series game 2

Vegas Leads the Series 1-0

8:00 PM EST. Vegas grabbed complete control of this series in Game 1 by doing what championship-caliber teams consistently do in the playoffs — dictate pace, win the special teams battle and capitalize on mistakes. The Golden Knights jumped out early, buried Colorado in transition and never really allowed the Avalanche to settle into their preferred up-tempo style. Vegas won nearly 57% of the faceoffs, limited Colorado’s clean entries for long stretches and once again showed why this is one of the most structurally sound defensive teams left in the postseason.

What stands out most about Vegas right now is how balanced this lineup has become offensively. Jack Eichel continues to drive possession and create chances every shift, while Mitch Marner has added another layer of creativity and puck movement that Colorado has struggled to contain. Vegas also leads the NHL in third-period goals per game, which speaks to both conditioning and depth. This team keeps pressure on opponents for a full 60 minutes and consistently rolls four lines capable of generating offense. Carter Hart has also given Vegas a major edge in net throughout the playoffs. His .920 save percentage and calm rebound control have stabilized the defensive zone, and he was outstanding again in Game 1 with 36 saves.

There is also an injury angle here that cannot be ignored. Normally we don't spend much time discussing injuries because the betting market usually accounts for them. In this case, we're not convinced it has. Cale Makar remains out for Colorado, and that's an enormous loss. Makar isn't just another defenseman. He is the engine that drives Colorado's entire attack. He quarterbacks the power play, initiates breakouts, creates offense from the back end and routinely logs close to 30 minutes a night in playoff games. His value extends far beyond the scoresheet because virtually everything Colorado does offensively starts with him touching the puck. In many ways, Makar is to Colorado what Bobby Orr was to Boston — a transformational defenseman around whom the entire system revolves.

Take a player of that magnitude out of the lineup and there should be a significant adjustment. We don't believe the market has fully made that adjustment. Colorado is still being priced much closer to the team it is with Makar than the team it becomes without him. That's a mistake we're willing to exploit.

Colorado remains dangerous offensively, but the Avalanche have shown vulnerability against disciplined defensive teams capable of slowing the game down through the neutral zone. Vegas has now won four of its last five games as a road underdog and continues to thrive in these playoff environments because of its depth, structure and experience. Add in the absence of Colorado's most important player and the value once again lies with the visitors..
