Minnesota +120 over Colorado
NHL playoff series Game 4
Colorado leads series 2-1
8:00 PM EST. Minnesota grabbed all the momentum back in this series with a dominant 5-1 win in Game 3 and now the pressure shifts squarely onto Colorado. The Wild dictated pace from the opening puck drop, capitalized twice on the power play and got elite goaltending from Jesper Wallstedt, who stopped 35 of 36 shots. That performance wasn’t a fluke either. Minnesota has now won four of its last six playoff games and continues to thrive in the underdog role on home ice, where the Wild posted 23 wins during the regular season. The biggest difference in Game 3 was Minnesota’s ability to slow Colorado through the neutral zone and force the Avalanche into lower-quality scoring chances, something very few teams have been able to do consistently this season.
Colorado still owns the more explosive offense overall, but the Avalanche suddenly look vulnerable when they don’t get out in transition early. Minnesota’s defensive structure tightened considerably on Saturday and the Wild are getting production from every line, not just relying on Kirill Kaprizov. Matt Boldy continues to be one of the best players in the series, while Brock Faber and Ryan Hartman are making huge impacts at both ends of the ice. The Wild have also been excellent at responding after losses throughout the postseason and their confidence level at home is clearly growing. Colorado’s penalty kill has been elite all season, but Minnesota cracked it twice in Game 3 and finally found seams in the Avalanche coverage that weren’t there earlier in the series.
The Avalanche remain dangerous because of their depth and scoring ability, but there’s value backing Minnesota again at plus money. Wallstedt has been steady throughout the playoffs and looks more comfortable with each start, while Colorado goaltender Scott Wedgewood has had trouble when facing sustained pressure around the crease. The Wild are skating with urgency, they’re winning battles along the boards and they’ve proven they can frustrate Colorado’s speed game when they stay disciplined defensively. Minnesota carried the play for long stretches in Game 3 and if they bring that same effort back home here, there’s a strong chance this series heads back to Colorado tied 2-2. The pick is Minnesota on the moneyline.
