7:00 PM EST. This play is largely a fade of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the New York Islanders bring enough structure and urgency to make this price very appealing. The Islanders have won three of their last four games and sit right in the thick of the playoff race. Every game matters at this stage, and this three-game road trip through Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal could very well define their season. Teams in this position tend to come out focused and urgent, especially in the first game of a trip where establishing momentum is critical.

Toronto’s recent results are extremely misleading. On paper, they picked up three out of a possible four points in their last two games, but the underlying performance tells a completely different story. Against Buffalo, they were outshot 33–18. Against Minnesota, they were outshot 38–25. Over those two games, Toronto spent the majority of the time defending, chasing the puck, and reacting instead of controlling play. The results suggest competitiveness, but the actual performance shows a team getting consistently outplayed.

The deeper analytics paint an even uglier picture. The Maple Leafs rank dead last in the NHL in puck possession time in the offensive zone during five-on-five play, which means they are spending far too much time in their own end and generating very little sustained pressure. That style of play is not sustainable, and it continues to get masked by short-term results. The Islanders, meanwhile, are playing with structure and purpose, and they are far more capable of controlling play at even strength. With Toronto being priced like a competent team despite getting outplayed night after night, there is clear value in fading them. The Islanders at -1½ (+180) offer a strong opportunity in a matchup where the gap in performance is far greater than the odds suggest.
