Seattle +188 over Dallas

9:30 PM EST. OT included. The Kraken made a strong statement on Tuesday night, taking Game 1, 5-4 in overtime. Seattle showcased its team-wide approach, with contributions from five different goal scorers: Jaden Schwartz, Justin Schultz, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jordan Eberle, and Yanni Gourde, all lighting the lamp, with Gourde potting the winner. The Kraken dominated the play, outshooting the Stars 44-to-35, including 10-to-4 in OT. Seattle is such a tough team because of their speed and effective forechecking, which was on full display in Game 1. Seattle was able to shut down just about everything the Stars could throw at it, except Joe Pavelski.

It was a game for the ages. A performance that will go down as one of the most clutch in NHL history. Those four goals from Pavelski that kept his team in Game 1 will not be soon forgotten, but those tallies also got the Stars jack squat in the end. Now, the Stars are behind the 8-ball, with more questions than answers. That is not the kind of team that should be favored in this range. The Stars have been by far the luckiest team in the NHL this season, and while we cannot predict if or when that luck will change, we know that there is a very good chance that Dallas is going to get outplayed again. Just as it was in Games 6 & 7 against the Wild and Game 1 v the Kraken (and so many other nights this season). In the first round, Dallas was dead last (ranked 16th out of 16 teams) in High Danger Scoring Chances.

The disrespect in the direction of the Kraken from the market is palpable again tonight, which presents us with another tremendous opportunity to take back a grossly inflated price with arguably the best team on the ice. No matter which way you slice it, there is no justification for the Stars to be a near 2-1 favorite. The Stars bogus regular season record, the analytics, and their play on the ice are all clear signs that this team is not elite. Meanwhile, the Kraken are so good up and down the lineup, and each guy plays their guts out every shift. What more could we want in an underdog?
