Toronto -½ +135 over N.Y. ISLANDERS

7:38 PM EST. We absolutely regret not posting the Penguins at such a great price last night but like a lot of emails we get, playing results is fucking easy. The Leafs lost to the Penguins last night but so what. Pittsburgh was healthier than it has been all year and played a better game than Toronto. We’ll look for the superior Maple Leafs to bounce back today in what should not be a difficult spot.

On and off the ice, things are getting more difficult for the Islanders. On the day of formal ribbon-cutting ceremonies at UBS Arena, the New York Islanders announced captain Anders Lee and Ross Johnston are in COVID-19 protocol. Josh Bailey is already out for a couple of weeks and so is Ryan Pulock, out with an injury as well. The Islanders were already without Anthony Beauvillie, Adam Pelech and Andy Greene. Undermanned and posting worse underlying stats than Arizona, when they were healthy, the garbage Islanders are not in a position to compete with the Maple Leafs should the Leafs come in focused and ready to play. We’re going to bet that they will be.

You see, as soon as we point it out, you will all remember the last time Toronto was the road team vs the Islanders when they played at the old building on Hempstead Turnpike. That was the day that John Tavaras returned to his old stomping grounds and was treated like a child-killer. It was nothing short of a barrage of disdain from the sellout crowd and it created an energy and playoff-like atmosphere that the Islanders fed off of. Tavaras was relentlessly booed to the point that he was almost in tears. The Islanders scored six unanswered goals and wiped the floor with the Leafs in a 6-1 win. Yes, my friends, that was in November of 2019, which is the last time the Leafs played here. You don’t think Tavaras and the Leafs have forgotten that night, do you?
