NASHVILLE -½ +110 over Columbus

8:05 PM EST. Regulation only. Remember when the Jackets were on fire a short while ago with an amazing 18 wins in 23 games from December 31st until February 7th? Why were they on fire? Elvis Merzlikins. Dude posted an off the charts save percentage of .945 during that hot streak. The Jackets have now lost seven in a row after that torrid streak and that’s because Elvis isn’t standing on his head anymore. Merzlikins was pulled last Tuesday versus the Flyers after he allowed four goals on 12 shots in 43:40 of playing time. He then lost again to Philadelphia two days later. Elvis has hit a bit of a rough patch lately, while going winless in six outings (0-3-2) with a save percentage of .893. To make matters worse, the Jackets are using a makeshift lineup because of a laundry list of injuries that doesn’t seem fair:

O. BjorkstrandRWOut indefinitely - Lower Body

J. KorpisaloGEarly March - Knee

J. AndersonRWEarly March - Shoulder

C. AtkinsonRWEarly March - Ankle

S. Jones        DLate April - Ankle

A. WennbergCEarly March - Upper Body

D. KukanDOut indefinitely - Knee

A. TexierCOut indefinitely - Back

R. MurrayDOut indefinitely - Lower Body

B. DubinskyCOut indefinitely - Wrist

There are not many excuses the Preds can come up with for losing this one. We can only think of one and that would be if they decide to use Pekka Rinne instead of the vastly superior Juuse Saros. Although there are no confirmations yet, we’re going to trust that the Preds will give themselves the best chance to win because they are fighting for their playoff lives and time is running out. It’s not rocket science. When Pekka Rinne plays, Nashville loses frequently and when he sits, they have been winning frequently lately. Now all they have to do is plug in Saros and play.
