7:05 PM EST. OT included. This is an excerpt from “Fansided” a publication that covers the Leafs:

"It is now a near certainty that the Toronto Maple Leafs will play the Boston Bruins next week in the first round of the playoffs. The Toronto Maple Leafs need just one point tonight to clinch. Failing that, they can get a single point tomorrow against Carolina, or Montreal can lose their game, either in regulation or overtime, to Tampa tomorrow night.

Can the Leafs still get home ice advantage?  Well, the Bruins have lost two in a row, and if the Leafs had any luck in the last couple of weeks (they were beaten by three hot goalies, and lost a game where Freddie Andersen had one of his worst ever performances) they’d be in the driver’s seat here. Withany luck, the Leafs would be 6-0 or at least 5-1, which, when coupled with Boston’s recent slide, would have given them a very strong chance for home ice in round one. As it stands, the Leafs would have to win their final four games and get a lot of help from Boston so it’s pretty unlikely”.

You see, we’re not the only ones. Anyone with any sense or knowledge of this great game knows how luck plays a massive role in the outcomes, which is why we insist on sticking to playing value and let the chips fall where they may. This market sees Toronto losing to Ottawa and it sticks out but what it doesn’t see is how Toronto absolutely dominated that game from start to finish, hit four goalposts while Ottawa scored three goals on 20 shots before adding an empty netter.

Speaking of luck, what we’re constantly about is the Islanders great improvement on defense. Let’s hope the media continues to emphasize that because it’ll influence the price and provide us with more great value in fading this team in the playoffs. The Islanders lead the NHL in goals against and once again we’ll point out that is result based only. What that doesn’t tell you is that the Islanders defense is garbage. What the Isles great goals against record doesn’t tell you is that the team ranks DEAD LAST in the NHL in Scoring Chances Against since the beginning of February, a span of 30 games. Not the Blackhawks, Flyers, Senators or Leafs have allowed more scoring chances than the Isles. Yeah, Robin Lehner/Thomas Greiss are part of the team but it is unreasonable to expect one or the other to bail them out almost every night. We repeat, that great Islanders defense that the media keeps praising is giving up more scoring chances over the past seven weeks than Ottawa, Chicago, Toronto and Philly or anyone else that you can think of. The Leafs recently went into Nassau County in John Tavares’ highly anticipated return to his old stomping grounds and he and the Leafs embarrassed themselves in a 6-1 loss. That ain’t happening again and we’ll gladly take the vastly superior team that will come in fired up to set things right.
