9:05 PM EST. Regulation only. How can a team as good as San Jose lose seven games in a row? It’s because hockey is such a luck-driven sport in where goaltending and shootout results can determine whether a team is hot or cold. The poor play of Martin Jones and to a lesser degree Aaron Dell are the main reason that San Jose is losing games at an Ottawa Senator-like pace these days. However, the Sharks remain one of the best five-on-five teams in the league on both ends of the ice. One should expect nothing less than an all out, all hands on deck effort from the Sharks tonight in an attempt to not only snap this losing streak but to gain some momentum back heading into the playoffs against a team they will likely be facing in the first round. How much of a bargain are the Sharks here? A big bargain when you consider that they were -182 over Vegas just 12 days ago in San Jose on March 18th. Today, the Sharks are in the -130 range but we don’t spot juice like that, thus the regulation play.

We have discussed how good the Knights are many times in this space over the past few weeks or months but this is not a favorable spot for them. Vegas played last night at home against Minnesota and will now play its fourth game in six nights, third game in four nights and tail-end of back-to-backs. Furthemore, Marc Andre Fleury is still on the rack, thus leaving Gerald Gallant to decide between playing Malcolm Subban on consecutive nights or using Maxime Lagace, who has played in exactly one game this year and has been in the minors for close to a decade. Either choice is the wrong one.
