Here we are in mid-March and the Coyotes are so close to making the playoffs for the first time since the 2011-12 season after back-to-back wins over St. Louis (3-1) and Anaheim (6-1). The ‘Yotes have also won four of five. We say “funny’ because once again, results take precedence over performance. The Coyotes are winning games but they are playing worse right now than they’ve played this entire season. See those last two victories over the Blues and Ducks, 3-1 and 6-1? The Coyotes lost the Corsi For battle by a combined 94-40! They lost the Scoring Chances battle by a combined 56-29 (!) and lost the shots on net battle by a combined 77-46! The game before those two victories, Arizona lost to Chicago 7-1 because they were dominated in that one too. They actually should have lost to both Anaheim and St. Louis by scores of 7-1 also.

Even against the Kings in one of their last four victories, Arizona was outplayed, out-chanced and outworked in. The best news is that the market only sees results and in that regard, they see the Coyotes winning games. Now for the first time in years, the Coyotes are in a position to make the playoffs and they’re not handling the prosperity well. The Arizona Coyotes have been chasing the puck for 60 minutes in three straight games and we cannot overemphasize how exhausting that is. The Oilers stock is down again but pay no attention, as Edmonton is playing at a much higher level than the Coyotes and we’ll try and take full advantage here.
