7:05 PM EST. Regulation only. The Wings were the better team on the ice yesterday night in D.C., but as is often the case in this league, the better side doesn't always win. Goaltending rules and if we knew which goalie was going to catch fire and which was going to flop all over themselves, we'd give you far more winners than losers. Instead, we are going to have to continue to go with the best of it and dig for value plays, which has us looking to come right back on Detroit today.

Jimmy Howard is quietly having a resurgence this season, as he's 10th in save percentage among qualified goaltenders. If you look at the numbers, Howard and his counterpart today, Linus Ullmark, are near identical, but Ullmark is undefeated at 4-0 in six starts, while Howard is 7-6-2. In terms of expected regression, Ullmark is in line for that much more than Howard.

The Wings are absolutely not the dumpster fire that they were projected to be. They've been competitive in every single game this year, but two. In fact, excluding empty netters, the Red Wings have not lost by more than one goal in any of those other games. This is a confident, undervalued and very live dog in its own barn and we'll continue to play them as long as they remain underpriced. Meanwhile, the Sabres may finally be fulfilling expectations, but with that combined with an eight-game winning streak comes with an inflated price.
