7:05 PM EST. The Capitals are racking up the wins despite some notable injuries to stars Braden Holtby, Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie. Holby was set to make the start tonight, but he was called upon to mop up for Pheonix Copley, who was pulled after allowing three goals in a 1:15 span against Montreal on Monday night. The Caps would rally to win that game, but they were outshot (44-34). With Holby having to play most of that contest in Montreal, Copley will be back between the pipes tonight and so we must attack. The 26-year-old has made seven starts this season, but do not let his 4-2 record fool you. Copley is ranked 45th in save percentage of all qualified goaltenders this season and he's 43rd in goals against average. You don't have to dig very deep to see that some regression is coming in his win/loss column and it may have already started. His teammates bailed him out in Montreal. Aside from that, if the season ended today, Washington would miss the playoffs. They rank bottom seven in several key analytic categories but they rank highly in luck-driven stats. Combine the two and it’s not a sustainable winning model.

Corey Crawford is enjoying a bit of a resurgence with a tidy goal against average of 2.44 and a respectable save percentage of .922. The difference between him and Copley on the stat sheet is quite vast, but Crawford doesn't have the wins to show for his effort. The Blackhawks do have points in four straight games and Crawford is coming off a game in which he made a season-high 39 saves and with a goalie they can trust behind them, the 'Hawks have been better up front. Crawford made a point to pick up his guys after the win in Minny, "I've felt good so far, but I felt our guys did a really good job of helping out in front of the net." Everything in this league comes down to the last man standing between the pipes. We get the better goaltender, who is in much better form and we get to take back a price. Sign us up.
