8:05 PM EST. The Sabres are quietly becoming a pretty good hockey team that is still priced like it’s last year. The Sabres are getting quality goaltending, they’re getting production all over the place and perhaps most importantly, they are gaining more confidence with each win. Buffalo has reeled off three in a row and four of five. They defeated Tampa Bay and Montreal (twice) already and they also have a recent 9-2 victory over Ottawa. The Sabres are winning 2-1 and 3-1 games and they’re also winning 6-5 type games. Buffalo comes into this contest with a 10-6-2 but are being treated like they’re 5-11-2. This team is legit is a legit threat to make the playoffs and are absolutely a great value play today.

Analytically speaking, very little divide these two teams apart from one another. Winnipeg and Buffalo are both mid-pack teams but it is Winnipeg that is priced like it’s running over the opposition when in fact they are not. Winnipeg is just a game better than the Sabres but the Jets have played 11 of their 16 games at home and will conclude their five-game homestand here before going on the road for four games. While we’ll acknowledge that the Jets are certainly a capable and competitive team, we also have to wonder how sustainable is their success? While their 10-6-2 record is impressive, much like the recently downed Predators, Winnipeg’s success is built on some questionable underlying numbers. The Jets hold a less than ideal 49.97 percent shot attempt share at five on five. That suggests winning shouldn’t be this easy. Furthermore, backup Laurent Brossoit will get the nod in net and this will be Brossoit's first start since Oct. 26 when he stopped 27 of 28 shots in a win over Detroit. He has a 3-0-0 record this year with a 1.68 goals-against average and .957 save percentage, thus regression is in the forecast for his unsustainable numbers too.
