10:05 PM EST. The Predators are riding a five-game win streak heading into tonight. In four of those wins, they’ve allowed one goal or less. Pekka Rinne currently leads the league in both goals against and save percentage. Additionally, the Preds ran their road record  to an incredible 8-0 this season after rallying from two down in Dallas on Saturday night to win it in OT. The numbers (SV%, shooting % and road winning %) are completely unsustainable because outcomes in the NHL are very much luck-driven, which is why we rarely see five, six, seven or more game winning streaks in the NHL and why we stress playing value over everything else. Before we get to the Ducks, it’s worth noting that the Preds will play their third straight on the road and fourth in last five games. Thus, they played in Tampa, home for one game before heading out for games in Colorado and Dallas and now this one. That’s about four different time zones over the past 10 days.

Anaheim continues to be absolutely outworked in shot differential and scoring chance differential too. Make no mistake that the Ducks have performed miserably all year and the only reason they are a game under .500 is because of the outstanding goaltending from both Ryan Miller and John Gibson. The Ducks are 7-8-3 and all seven wins are because of great goaltending so why can’t that occur here too? If goaltending wins games, the Ducks have a great shot here. Furthermore, things are looking up for the Ducks. Ryan Getzlaf is still playing at an elite level. He has 11 points in 12 games after posting 61 points in 56 contests last season.

Furthermore, Patrick Eaves’ return on November 1st from a scary illness has been an emotional, uplifting story for the Ducks. “It’s really good to see Eaves,” said Jakob Silfverberg. “He obviously has been fighting through this for a long period of time. To see him able to play like he did here, it’s great. It was definitely a big boost energy-wise to this team. In addition to Eaves, Ondrej Kase is another key player who is set to make his long-awaited return to Anaheim’s lineup. The 23-year-old Czech winger has missed the entire regular season to this point after suffering a concussion in the last game of the preseason. That kid is talented and could make a big difference.

The Cogliano-Kesler-Silfverberg line is together again and will most likely go up against Nashville’s top line. Kesler will hopefully do what he does best, which is piss off Ryan Johansen and cause chaos for that line. Meanwhile, Patrick Eaves is skating with Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell and that gives Anaheim two very good lines with Kase’s line providing the club with consistent speed and tenacity. Finally, you would have to go far back into the archives to find the last time the Ducks were taking back a price like this in their own rink, which brings us back to value. Win or lose, the Ducks are the correct play based on said value.
