10:05 PM EST. The Preds are 11-3 overall with a 6-0 road record but at some point their extreme good luck will come crashing down. Nashville is coming off a 1-0 victory over Boston in which they created four high danger scoring chances and scored once. Boston had twice that and didn’t score. The game prior, Nashville recorded a 4-1 victory in Tampa Bay and once again, luck was the deciding factor, as Nashville was clearly the second best team on the ice. In fact, the Preds luck is so good that Andrei Vasilevskiy came up with a very rare poor performance.

It’s not just the Preds last two games either, as they have been the second best team on the ice in a few games but good luck has them with the best record in the league. The ingredients are not the best. Since October 23rd, the Preds rank 18th in Corsi For % during five-on-five play. They also rank 26th over that same stretch in Scoring Chances for % and 18th in xGF/60. We’re not suggesting that the Preds are weak but they are not even close to being the best team in the NHL with an offense that is as reliant on one line as the team they’ll face here. The difference is Colorado’s top line is the NHL’s best line that has created more chances and scored more points than any other line in the NHL. It’s also worth noting that one third of Nashville’s top line, Viktor Arvidsson, is out for an extended period of time. In xGA/60, Nashville ranks ninth over the past three weeks but Colorado ranks second behind the Bruins.

Colorado returns home after a brief two-game trip to Calgary and Vancouver in which they went 0-1-1 and allowed 13 goals against. That’s fine by us, as they scored 11 times and lost both games by one goal. It’s worth noting that the secondary scoring started flowing in, which meant the Avs didn’t have to rely solely on the workhorse line of Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, and Mikko Rantanen. The Avs are deeper than the Preds too. The Avs do not take a backseat to the Preds up front or in goal. Colorado is a fast team. They work hard and they’re relentless on the puck. They’ve played that way all season so far and have more than proven to be a difficult out. As a dog at home, Colorado is almost always playable and this one is no different.
