1:00 PM EST. Regulation only. "Scoreboard." If you listen to The Jim Rome Show, you've heard it before. Even if you don't, the beat writers, the local hosts, the fans and even the players know it. The scoreboard is all that matters and what happened from the first to last whistle is irrelevant unless you get the desired result. The same approach could be taken to wagering because, at the end of the day, all that matters is whether or not you cashed your ticket, right? This logic is flawed, as you, like us, have surely cashed some bets you shouldn't have and of course we've all been on the wrong end of one team dominating, but the other getting the W. That's why it's important to pay attention to what the talking heads are saying and then using it to your advantage because they have significant influence in the market.

Tuning into NHL Radio this morning, we heard the panel discussing the Golden Knights and we had to chuckle, as they used every excuse in the book to come up with the reason why Vegas was struggling this season. Maybe they just got caught up in the emotion of their inaugural season and rode that to the Finals one suggested. Another said perhaps they had a "chip" on their shoulders because they were an expansion team. No one could quite pinpoint the problem, but they all agreed that regression was inevitable and that playing in the finals in their first season may have somehow spoiled the Knights. Those narratives are nice for some Saturday morning hockey talk, but they are bullshit. The Golden Knights were great last season because they were a legit analytics monster and they got fantastic goaltending. What's changed this season? The latter of course, as Marc-Andre Fleury and Malcolm Subban, have not been at their bests. That's it. However, perception is everything and after a 1-4 start to the season, the bloom is coming off "The Flower." Those that predicted regression for the Knights this season may feel vindicated so far, but we're here to tell you that Vegas is better this year than it was last. The Knights are the number two puck possession team so far this season behind San Jose and they've played five games, so it's not like this is a one or two game sample. The Knights dominated the Penguins for lone stretches on Thursday night, but lost 4-2 despite outshooting Pittsburgh 37-22. They outshot the Capitals the game prior and lost too. The Knights were all over the Sabres Monday afternoon outshooting Buffalo 37-17, but again fell 4-2. In its only win, Vegas needed the shootout to knock off the Wild after outshooting their opposition 40-32. Eventually, those pucks are going to start going in the net. Not getting the results has the media and market down on the Knights, but that presents us with a great opportunity today.

Looks at this line. Vegas is taking back a price today and that is not right. The Flyers cannot be favored here, as they are not in good form. Philly is a bottom third puck possession team and we saw what happened the other night when they faced off against the Sharks in that 8-2 drubbing by San Jose. Set aside the Flyers 5-2 opening night win in Vegas, which we'll get to in a second and they only other team they've beat is Ottawa and Philly's goaltending still gave up four goals in that contest. When these two teams played in Vegas just 10 days ago, the Golden Knights were a -175 favorite and they got pounded by the market all day. The Flyers won 5-2, but a brutal performance from Fleury greatly aided that score. The Flower only stopped 11-of-16 shots while Brian Elliott kicked aside 23-of-25 shots. Tyhe #1 possession team in the NHL buried the Flyers 8-2 last week. The #2 puck possession team now comes in here. The Golden Knights are as solid of a bet you'll find on the board.
