It's been a great season in New Jersey, as the Devils went from picking first overall after winning the draft lottery to being just one win away from clinching a playoff spot. These closeout games are so tough to win, as the Devils found out in Montreal on Sunday night. It took Taylor Hall's league-leading 12th shorthanded goal for New Jersey to squeak out the 2-1 win over the third worst team in the Eastern Conference and cut its magic number to one.

While the perception in the market might be that the Rangers have mailed it in on the season, we'd like to point to their 2-1 win in Carolina last time out. That game was a "must-win" for the 'Canes to keep their playoffs hopes alive and the Rags squashed what little chance the home side had to make the cut. New York can't finish off the Devils tonight, but with tough games against the already playoff-bound Leafs and Capitals to end the season, the Rangers could help cause a sleepless night or two, as the pressure on New Jersey mounts. As divisional foes, these two teams have already played three times this season with the Rags being the chalk in two of those games. Taking back a significant price like this just goes to show have far their stock has fallen since the trade deadline. The market sees a team that is tanking while we see a squad that cut a bunch of dead weight. We've been critical of the Rangers for years, but they have quickly been able to turn overpriced pylons into assets while allowing their young guys to play a more significant role. Trust us, the Rags do not want the Devils to clinch on their watch. It's been a long time since the Rangers took back a price like this against the Devils but the market puts far too much emphasis on these “must-win” games, thus, providing us with such great value. As long as the new look Rags continue to provide value, we're going to back them when it's appropriate. Tonight is one of those nights.
