CHICAGO -2 +100 over Cincinnati

1:00 PM EST. When a team gets blasted on Sunday Night Football, as the Bears did in Week 1, it leaves an impression in the market. When that market also feasts on that most lopsided result, it can be very tempting to hunt what looks like an easy target the next time out.

While the Bears performance in L.A. against the Rams was disappointing, there were plenty of positives. First, running back David Montgomery was one of just a handful of backs to post a 100 yard or better day rushing (Joe Mixon, Elijah Mitchell, Melvin Gordon and Damien Harris being the others) and he did it on 16 carries. Rookie quarterback Justin Fields made the most of his two pass attempts completing both, but he showed enough for those of us that have him stashed on their bench in fantasy to get pretty damn excited about his future. It would be nice to see the Bears use him a little more in tandem with Andy Dalton during the game. As for Howdy Doody, it’s easy to crap on him for not being even remotely interesting, but again, that profile suits us fine here. Dude is like a potato. On his own, he’s not that flavorful, but he’s filling. When you add some fixin’s (Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, Cole Kmet and Damien Williams), he actually goes down pretty easily.

Dalton wasn’t the reason the Bears lost last week, his receivers dropped some passes and the defense wasn’t at its best. They gave up three huge plays that resulted in 21 points (two bombs and a 40 yd completion). Combine that with Matthew Stafford knowing a thing or two about these Bears from his time in Detroit with a late 4th quarter touchdown and it was all enough to make this one look worse than it was. The Bears are being undersold here, while their opposition’s stock is on the uptick

The Bengals won outright as a home pooch against the Vikings in a 27-24 overtime decision. It was a nice win for Cincinnati to start the year, but there were some concerns on the Bengals side. The defense was torched for 336 yards through the air and they gave up a 10 point fourth quarter lead. That is not ideal. However, all the market sees on the surface is the victory, which makes the Bengals a much more appealing proposition than the home side.

We had to raise a Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-like eyebrow to the Bengals taking back a field goal in Chicago. Oddsmakers could have likely made Cinci the favorites here after the Bears got whacked on national television and likely not swayed a bet. Yet, the books made Chicago the chalk so before you pull the trigger on Cinci, you had better ask yourself why. Like us, the books know that Chicago’s loss to the Rams was one of the more misleading scores of Week 1 and they, too, are betting on a big rebound from the Bears.
