L.A. CHARGERS -3 -106 over Dallas

4:25 PM EST. The Rams might get all the love as “L.A.’s Team,” but that suits our needs just fine. The Chargers are still not getting the respect they deserve and much of that has to do with playing little brother to the landlord Rams. On the field, it may have to do with the fact the Chargers barely beat the Taylor Heinicke-led Football Team. Ryan Fitzpatrick went down early with a hip injury and so that 20-16 final is not likely to inspire much from this market, especially considering the Cowboys’ high profile TNF performance.

If one were to take a closer look at the box score, a different story than the one the final tells becomes apparent. Los Angeles should have waxed the floor with Washington, but alas, in-game variance is a fickle motherfucker. Sometimes you get the bounces and sometimes you don’t. The story that is not being told here is what Justin Herbert and company did to one of the top touted defenses in this league. Herbert was his usual outstanding self, throwing for 334 yards for a touchdown and an INT. Dude is already one of the best pivots in the league under pressure and that is a skill that cannot be overvalued. Herbert distributed the ball to eight different receivers with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams both having big games. More importantly, the starting wide receivers finished the contest without injury. Knock on wood.

At some point, Justin Herbert is going to get the coverage and accolades that he deserves. We hope it’s not for a while because we’ll keep getting the Bolts at these discount prices. Dude is as good a second year QB as any this league has ever seen and he was as good a rookie as any this league has ever seen.

Was there a team in Week 1 that raised its stock more than the Cowboys? An offensive shootout between Dak Prescott and Tom Brady came down to a no-call for the Bradys, which had Dallas fans fuming. Unless you bet the Cowboys on the money line or needed them in a parlay, we’re not too sympathetic to the plight of the fan. As for America’s Team, it put up 29 points on what is supposed to be one of the best defenses in the league and easily covered a 9-point spread. That left an impression in the market, as it was one of the most watched football games in the past two decades.

Dak picked up right where he left off with a Madden 22 like night of 403 yards passing and three touchdowns. Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb both put up 100+ games and six other receivers got in on the action. Did we miss anybody? If you’re looking for Zeke Elliot, you wouldn’t be the only one, as after a hard running start, dude when silent. Totally not his fault, as he was fed just 11 times on the ground and saw two targets through the air. Enter Mike McCarthy.

We’ve ripped McCarthy for years because he’s a big dummy.  Furthermore, Dallas hosts the Eagles at Jerry’s World next week, which will be full for the first time in two years on Sunday Night Football. Mix a lookahead spot with a ton of overreaction from Week 1 and you have one of the stronger plays on the board but before we close, we also want to leave you with this:

The Chargers won last week despite getting screwed over by the refs not once but at least twice what could have been game-changing calls. Google Justin Herbert and you won’t get his profile. You’ll get this:

Herbert

We have no idea if it matters or not but there is a chance that human nature will influence the refs into giving the hometown Chargers the benefit of a few calls to make up for trying to screw them over last week. We’re absolutely not counting on that but it’s a nice little nugget to stash in our pocket. Big time underlay here.
