7:00 PM EST. The idea that these Week 3 preseason games are a "dress rehearsal" has been squashed by coaches around the league, as starters have not taken the field for the likes of the Rams, Bears and Packers. We don't blame coaches either considering what happened to the Lions last night after losing linebacker Jarrad Davis and center Frank Ragnow, who were both expected to play prominent roles this season. With an injury to quarterback Andrew Luck again dominating Colts camp, coach Frank Reich will rest his starters and begin the game with third-string pivot, Chad Kelly. Undrafted free agent Phillip Walker will mop up what’s left of the mess. Kelly is the nephew of Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly and has been called a gunslinger, which is somewhat funny when you see his stat lines this preseason. Sure, he 'e completed 70 percent of his passes, but his average is just 6.6 yards per attempt — Bang, bang.

Someday we might look at Bears coach Matt Nagy's approach to the preseason as the start of something big. While maybe not the first, Nagy was the most outspoken when it came to be making it known that his players would not be suiting up when it did not matter. The preseason is nothing more than a cash grab for the NFL and Nagy knows this. Why would he sacrifice the performance of the team when at the end of the day it's going to be his ass on the line if the Bears don't win games? The Bears were not impressive last week in a 32-13 loss to the Giants, but the G-men played both Eli Manning and his new understudy Daniel Jones and were fighting hard for the win. The Giants also added a pair of late touchdowns to pad that box score. We suspect the Bears and their coach will be fine-tuning some stuff after last week’s 32 points allowed in a preseason game. Chicago’s starters will score some points while the Colts starters will be holding clipboards.
