Stanford -4 -110 over Hawaii

7:00 PM EST. This is a classic case of two programs whose stocks are moving in opposite directions. Hawaii enters 2026 with some shine after last year's breakthrough, including a victory over this same Stanford team, while the Cardinal remain an easy program for the market to dismiss. Stanford has endured several miserable seasons, another coaching transition and very little recent evidence suggesting bettors should be lining up to support them. That history matters because perception influences price, and right now Hawaii is the team getting the benefit of the doubt. We believe that creates an opportunity to buy Stanford before the market has a reason to believe in them again.

There are legitimate reasons to think the Cardinal are finally moving in the right direction. Tavita Pritchard takes over a program he knows intimately after spending the past three seasons coaching in the NFL, and Stanford has surrounded him with an experienced staff. More importantly, this isn't a complete teardown. Andrew Luck's fingerprints are increasingly on the program, Stanford retained a meaningful portion of last year's roster, and Michigan transfer Davis Warren gives the Cardinal an experienced option at quarterback. None of that guarantees an immediate transformation, but Stanford doesn't have to suddenly become an ACC contender to cash this ticket. It merely has to be considerably better than the version the market has grown accustomed to fading.

Hawaii's stock, meanwhile, is considerably healthier. The Warriors beat Stanford last season, are coming off a successful year and have earned the respect they're receiving. However, last year's meeting also provides some context that the final score doesn't. Stanford went into Honolulu and had every opportunity to win that game but failed to finish drives and lost many of the smaller battles that often decide close games. Now the venue flips to Palo Alto, Stanford gets another crack at the Warriors and the Cardinal do so with a new staff, a new quarterback and considerably more optimism internally than the outside perception of this program would suggest.

We're interested in buying teams before their improvement becomes obvious, not afterward when everybody else has noticed and the price has adjusted. Stanford's recent history has made the Cardinal undesirable, while Hawaii's recent success has made the Warriors considerably easier to endorse. That's precisely the disparity we're attacking. The market is still pricing Stanford largely on what it has been rather than what it might be becoming under Pritchard and Luck. We're willing to find out before everyone else does. Stanford -4 is the call.
