3 NBA Games Under

Long time readers of this space know that we typically lean to wagering on sides over totals, but in these NBA Playoffs, we’re going to focus our attention to the latter.

The transformation of the game from the regular season to the playoffs has seen scoring plummet. Take the Dallas/Utah series. The combined totals for these games so far have been: 192, 214, 244, 199, 175. The Mavericks have maintained their season-long low-possession pace in this series and have forced the Jazz into exposing a halfcourt offense that has no rhyme or reason to it. Dallas is in control of everything, which includes the pace.

In the Raptors/76ers series, you’ve got Toronto with all the momentum. The 76ers have been outcoached, out hustled, and outplayed for three straight games. Since the Raps started to dictate the pace of the game, the totals in the series have gone under (four straight). James Harden is in full James Harden mode. He’s ball hoggin’ his way down the court while the rest of the Sixers have their hand in their pockets watching him launch shots from wherever he damn well pleases.

Joel Embiid has not been the same player these last two games since it was revealed that he is dealing with a thumb injury. Embiid is playing through, but the results haven’t been there. Whether it’s the injury, the drop-off by the Sixers as a whole, the Raptors defensive adjustments, or some combination thereof, the 76ers are look like an offensive mess.

The other Western Conference matchup tonight between New Orleans and Phoenix has seen the unders go 2-3, but it is not unreasonable to expect things to tighten up now that the Pelicans are looking at elimination on their home court. We’re not going to pick and choose. We’re all in on the unders tonight.
