7:05 PM EST. The value here is on Kansas City and, more specifically, on fading a Texas lineup that continues to be one of the most frustrating offensive groups in baseball. The Rangers are still without Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford, and the impact has been obvious. This is a team that frequently struggles to score, frequently plays from behind, and frequently puts enormous pressure on its pitching staff to be nearly perfect.

Texas has lost six of its last seven games and just dropped three of four to a banged-up Houston club. During that stretch, the Rangers were shut out once, scored one run in another game, and have scored two runs or fewer in four of their last six contests. They have scored one run or less more times than any team in baseball. When you back Texas, you're often asking a struggling offense to suddenly wake up, and that has not been a profitable proposition all season.

Stephen Kolek (RHP – KC) is not an overpowering pitcher. He doesn't light up radar guns and he isn't going to pile up double-digit strikeout games. He gets by on guile, deception and sequencing mastery. Kolek sure does know how to pitch and continues to prove it, most recently, firing a complete-game shutout of Seattle. Kolek understands how to navigate a lineup and against a Texas offense that has been seeing BB gun pellets at the plate all season,he just needs to keep doing what he's been doing.

MacKenzie Gore (LHP – TEX) has quality stuff and plenty of talent, but this play isn't about arguing that Kolek is better than Gore. He isn't. It's about price. Gore remains a talented left-hander with strikeout ability, but the Rangers continue to receive respect in the betting market because of their name recognition and perceived upside, while the actual on-field product has been one of the weakest offensive teams in the league. Even strong starts from Gore have often gone to waste because Texas simply cannot generate enough offense.

Until the Rangers prove they can score consistently, there is little reason to lay a premium with them. The market continues to price Texas based on what it should be instead of what it has been.
