Colorado -1½ +220 over Arizona
3:10 PM EST. Tomoyuki Sugano (RHP - COL) gets an underrated matchup against an Arizona lineup that has struggled badly against right-handed pitching this season, producing just an 87 wRC+ in those spots. Sugano’s overall 4.07 ERA doesn’t jump off the page, but he’s been far more effective away from Coors Field and still brings elite command and pitch sequencing every time he takes the mound. The concern is obvious — his ERA at Coors sits at 4.71 — but the veteran right-hander continues to limit walks and generally keeps his team competitive. Arizona’s offense has been inconsistent enough against righties that Sugano should have opportunities to work efficiently if he keeps the ball down early in counts.
Eduardo Rodriguez (LHP - ARI) enters with a sparkling 2.25 ERA and is coming off his best outing of the season after allowing just one earned run over 8.1 innings against the Mets. The surface numbers look excellent, but the advanced metrics suggest regression is looming. Rodriguez owns a concerning 5% K-BB rate and has benefited heavily from favorable strand rates and batted-ball luck, leading to a much higher expected ERA sitting near 4.70. Colorado’s offense has looked awful overall this season, but the Rockies remain a completely different team offensively at Coors Field where they carry a much stronger .767 OPS at home. Even with the strikeout concerns, Colorado tends to create scoring chances in this environment and Rodriguez’s profile isn’t nearly as dominant as the ERA suggests.
Backing Colorado on the reverse run line is all about value and offensive variance at Coors Field. Arizona may have the stronger overall roster, but the Diamondbacks have not consistently hit right-handed pitching well enough to justify this type of price on the road. Meanwhile, Rodriguez is pitching over his head statistically and Coors is rarely forgiving once contact starts finding gaps. Colorado’s offense becomes significantly more dangerous at home and this is the type of park where momentum can flip quickly over a couple innings. If Sugano can simply avoid the big blowup inning, the Rockies have every chance to stay within striking distance and potentially win outright. At plus money on the reverse run line, Colorado is the side worth backing.
