L.A. Angels over Pittsburgh

12:35 PM EST. We don’t know if the Angels will win here but we promise you that we’re going with the best of it, as Martín Pérez (LHP - PIT) is absolutely overpriced while L.A’s starter is high on our radar as one of the most underpriced or under the radar starters in the game.

Pérez isn’t really fooling anyone but his luck has been off the charts good so far. Last year, hitters adjusted to his sinker-forward repertoire that fueled his career season in 2022. Regression bit hard at the beginning of May and then he was moved to long relief by the end of July. This aging soft-tosser with an entrenched swing and miss rate and no plus skills is nothing but an unattractive proposition when spotting a price. Pérez comes in with an xERA of over 5 after seven starts and has just one victory this year. His surface ERA of 3.15 is fool's gold.

José Soriano (RHP - LAA) went 1-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 42 frames last year. This year, Soriano is 1-4 in five starts plus two relief appearances with an ERA of 3.77. Last season, Soriano reached the majors in June, after completing recovery from dual Tommy John surgeries in 2020-21. Those layoffs account for the lack of high-minors data, and give some hope that the evident control issues can be tamed with a little more experience. When we look at his last start, he walked just one batter over six frames. The velocity (98 MPH), swing and miss rate, and outstanding groundball rate of 58% are a starter kit for an impact starter that few are aware of. In terms of value, Halos offer it all here.
