Dylan Cease to Record the Win +165

The Giants are a small favorite here at home, and the Padres are very playable as the pooch, but rather than back the Friars on the money line, we are going to look to their starting pitcher, Dylan Cease, to pick up the win at +165. Considering the Giants are not only the favorite, and that their starter, Jordan Hicks, pitched five scoreless innings versus the Friars while picking up the win in his first start, it's curious that Hicks is +310 to pick up the win in this game. That line tells us that the oddsmakers do not think he is going to go five innings, so that leaves the Giants' bullpen to finish the job should they have the lead when he exits. If Hicks doesn’t have the lead when he leaves the game, there is a great chance that Cease is dealing.

In his first start, Cease was a tough-luck loser to the Giants, where he allowed two earned runs on two hits across 4.2 innings while punching out six. Cease was the runner-up for the AL Cy Young award in 2022, but he regressed some last season, which allowed the Friars to pick him up on the cheap in a trade with the White Sox in the offseason. Cease is a “buy low” candidate, and he should benefit greatly from the move from the AL Central to the NL West. As a workhorse for the White Sox, Cease started 33 games in 2023, going at least five innings 26 times. He only went less than four innings once.
