Boston +109 over Philadelphia

1:35 PM EST. The Red Sox will send Tanner Houck (RHP - BOS) to the mound, hoping he can build on his 3-1 record. A surface ERA of 5.34 is not flattering, but an xERA of 3.98 shows that Houck has been better than advertised. An solid groundball rate of 49.5%, combined with a lower than average strand rate (62.5%), suggest he’s legit and up to the task of living in the BoSox starting rotation while James Paxton works his way back from a hamstring injury.

The Phillies signed Taijuan Walker (RHP - PHI) to a four-year, $72 million contract in the offseason, but he has yet to live up to expectations. Big money affects everyone differently, and at the moment, Walker is unable to find the strike zone with 17 walks in 28.2 innings, which has led to his bloated WHIP of 1.60. Walker has especially struggled in his last two starts, after allowing eight runs in his appearance against the Dodgers on Monday, including three homers in just 3 1/3 innings. In his prior start against Seattle (on April 26), Walker gave up five runs on five hits over just 4.0 IP. Dude cannot get out of his own way at the moment, which makes Walker very difficult to trust as the betting favorite.
