Kansas City -1½ +328 over CHICAGO

8:10 PM EST. Call this a throwaway bet if you like, but there are enough cracks in Lucas Giolito's (RHP - CHI) profile that more than justify the extreme value being offered here. First, Gio's groundball rate is down significantly over last season, almost a full 10% (41.3% to 32.1%). Down also is his strikeout rate from 12.07 K/9 in 2020 to 10.30 K/9 here in 2021. Even if Giolito is lights out tonight, in 21 starts this season, he's just 8-7, so it's not like the White Sox win every time he starts.

We bet the Royals yesterday and ripped up that ticket, but we'll not be deterred from coming right back on them here. Carlos Hernandez (RHP - KAN) might not have the pedigree of the Royals high profile first round hurlers, but that appears to suit him just fine. Much less pressure this way. Hernandez is a beast at 6'4", 250 lbs and he's got the heat that one would expect to come with such an imposing frame. His fastball can hit 98 MPH and he brings three other pitches with him in his toolbox. He's relied much more on his slider this season and it's working for him. Dude’s strikeout rate is up this year to 11.01 K/9, his xERA is lower than its surface number and his swing and miss rate (12.2%) is on the way to elite territory. Like with many young pitchers, the walks are an issue, but on night's when he puts it all together, dude is lights out. While he began his callup in the bullpen, Hernandez has pitched himself into a starting role. It's impossible to predict how long he'll go tonight, as the Royals continue to stretch him out, but in his last turn, Hernandez pitched six scoreless innings against the Southsiders, giving up just four hits and one walk while picking up the win. Who’s to say he can't do it again?
