Toronto +115 over TAMPA BAY

7:10 PM EST. Shane McClanahan (LHP - TAM) had a rough 5.01 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in June, but behind those marks was a really solid foundation of skills: 28% K%, 9% BB%, 19% K-BB%, 52% grounders. Batters really struggled to make contact against him (16% swing & miss). He was victimized by barrels (10.8% barrel rate), which led him to bouts of gopheritis (1.9 HR/9, 26% hr/f). Does that not fit right into the Blue Jays strengths? Toronto can bash, they make contact and they have outstanding numbers v lefties.

A towering 6'6" and 250 pounds, Alek Manoah (RHP - TOR) is an imposing figure on the mound, with the stuff to back it up. He's been a divisive prospect due to his limited athleticism and lagging changeup through his draft and into professional ball, as many evaluators believed he would eventually be bullpen bound. There, it is argued, his plus mid-90s fastball with late sink and plus slider would play up in a highly leveraged role, while his limited athleticism wouldn't end in repeated breakdowns or serious control issues. Manoah, however, used 2020 to get in excellent shape, even opening a gym with his brother in Miami. At the alternative site, the Jays had the Florida native focus on changeup development and the results were promising, as he impressed scouts in attendance. Manoah kept that fire going at both the minor league level and major league level ever since. This kid is wickedly talented. His swinging strike rate is 19%. He has 43 K’s with just 12 walks issued over 37 frames. He faced 21 Rays earlier this year and made them look silly. The Blue Jays/Manoah combo is about as live an underdog as any and when a price is being offered, you can pencil us in.
