San Francisco -108 over PHILADELPHIA

7:05 PM EST. When something looks out of place it usually catches our attention and that’s precisely the case here. The Giants are coming off a tough weekend in Miami in which they lost two of three and scored just one run in two of the games. Meanwhile, Philadelphia just took two of three from the Cardinals to run its home record to 7-2.

Kevin Gausman’s (RHP - SF) stock is not high and therefore it is not the driving force for the Giants being favored. Gausman has been underachieving for years and the market eventually gives up on you. Now pitching for a team that is perceived as one that cannot hit, Gausman’s appeal isn’t great. So we wonder, “San Francisco is favored in Philadelphia today because why? That’s what caught our attention and if it caught ours, it surely must look very attractive to others too.

Chase Anderson (RHP - PHI) is coming off a pair of middling outings at the hands of the NY Mets, a top-5 unit against RHP thus far. Today he’ll toe the rubber against a much more manageable Giants’ offense, who currently sit 22nd in OPS against RHP (.623 OPS). Anderson’s cutter and curve have generated more whiffs to begin the year, but he’s yet to see those improvements result in more strikeouts.

Despite the misleading team batting average, the Giants have done a good job of taking a walk (10%). Anderson has posted a 40% Ball% and 13% BB%, which could bode poorly for him. In addition, Citizens Bank Park offers a 22/26% bump in LHB/RHB HR, while Anderson has yielded a 1.5 HR/9 or worse for four straight seasons. San Fran strikes out far less than Philadelphia does. San Fran’s bullpen is ranked 12th in MLB while Philly’s is ranked 23rd. Even though Philadelphia may look more enticing, it is actually the Giants that have every edge here besides home field and we’re going to trust that we’re getting the Giants at a discount.
