Milwaukee +106 over CHICAGO

7:40 PM EST. A $10K sign way back in 2012, Adbert Alzolay (RHP - CHC) has seemingly been around forever and is still attempting to transition to the majors. 6’1” and 208 pounds, the Venezuelan has had a variety of ailments that have slowed his progression and pushed the profile more towards bullpen work rather than the starter he has remained throughout his seven minor league seasons. The 25-year-old’s primary weapons are a plus fastball and curve, and when he’s in sync, both are swing-and-miss offerings. He also has an average change-up. Solid prospect's ability to limit hard contact while generating whiffs gives him foundation for growth. While BB% seems like a concern, xBB% doesn't suggest it's time to worry yet. Just don't be wooed by the shiny surface stats, as those were fueled by fortunate hit%/strand% rates more than impactful skills. Seven minor league years says the kid has paid his dues but we cannot get on board with a starter that is favored while proving nothing just yet.

Freddy Peralta (RHP - MIL) was impressive in spring training and earned a spot in the starting rotation. We mentioned yesterday to not put too much weight on a great spring and we’re not going to contradict that here, as we’re merely pointing out how he got to this point. What we will put weight on is the bigger picture. You see, Peralta was sent back to the 'pen after one start, but there were several good signs beneath his mediocre ERA: 1) Held on to 2019's velocity spike; 2) paired the heater with new slider (21% swing & miss rate) to drive elite K%; 3) hit%/strand% combo can't stay this bad for much longer, right? Walks remain an issue, but with a new weapon in his arsenal, xERA hints at something like a 3.25 ERA. He’s worth the investment.
