DETROIT +105 over Kansas City

7:10 PM EST. Tarik Skubal (LHP - DET) owns a Boeing ERA (7.27) through his first five MLB starts. The most recent pair among that five were polar opposites. On Sept 5, Skubal tossed a gem against the Twins; on Sept 10, he suffered through a walk-filled disaster against the Cardinals. How he fairs here is anyone’s guess but dude has the ability to thrive because he really is that good. Skubal’s most notable trait is his power fastball-slider combination that can dominate hitters when located throughout the strike zone. He routinely pumps 94-95 mph fastballs and we have seen him scrape 97-98 on occasion. Skubal’s fastball has plenty of natural movement and will run in on the hands of right-handers at times. He shows aptitude for working it to both sides of the plate and he’s beginning to find success elevating his fastball. He has 17 K’s in 17 innings and he’s probably on a pitch count of about 75-80 pitches but also on a pitch count will be Kansas City’s starter.

Brady Singer (RHP - KC) is back after his no-hit bid against Cleveland on Sept 10. The 23-year-old rookie threw 119 pitches in that contest, so he likely gets a short leash in this turn. Detroit faced Singer on July 30 where the Tigers hit a pair of home runs and are part of the 19.1% HR/f the Royal righty is working against.

Tari Skubal is a legit top prospect. Singer is a modest prospect who projects out as a back-of-the-rotation starter. A lot will hinge on Singer’s ability to maintain a strikeout rate that's at least closer to league average. His current skills suggest he'll fare better over the remainder of the season, but he also still has areas of his game that are in need of improvement and dude does not warrant being road chalk after throwing 119 pitches in his last start and nearly throwing a no-no. Big letdown spot too for Singer.
