9:10 PM EST. Wilmer Font (RHP - TOR) has 70 K’s in 65 innings with a skills supported 13% swing and miss rate. Dude also has a BB/K split of 5/24 over his last 18 frames to go along with an elite ERA/xERA split of 1.96/3.27. Collectively, the Mariners have never seen a pitch they didn’t like so they figure to help Font out. It’s a small sample size for Font but we do not care, as this is a great value play against King Felix.

Felix Hernandez (RHP - SEA) comes off the 60 day DL but it’s been over 90 days since he last pitched on May 11 and the slide continues. Sure, an aberrant strand rate didn't help, but career lows in velocity, swing and miss rate, and strikeout rates from last year carried over into his first few starts this year. You can refute it if you like but 1,150 innings pitched by age 24 had a role in this premature downfall. The King’s velocity has been in steady, nearly consistent decline since his debut and his swing and miss rate is now at 8% with a fastball that tops off at 89 MPH. Why don’t the Mariners just sit him for the rest of the year and hope he can regain some magic for next year? It’s simple. Hernandez signed a 7-year / $175,000,000 contract with the Mariners, including a $6,000,000 signing bonus, $175,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $25,000,000. Felix Hernandez is pitching today because the Mariners front office’s blood is boiling over having to pay him 25M to smoke cigars. Man, 25 million doesn’t buy you what it used to and now Felix is favored because why?
