8:40 PM EST. The “Coors Field” angle is back in play, as the Rockies return home from a six-game trip to Wrigley and Citi Field in Queens respectively. The Rocks lost two of three games in both series. Today’s starters, Yu Darvish (RHP - CHC) and German Marquez (RHP - COL), opposed one another exactly five days ago at Wrigley with the Cubbies emerging victorious by a score of 9-8. Both starters lasted 5.1 innings with Darvish allowing three runs on five hits and Marquez allowing eight runs on seven hits. This start at Coors is not unlike pitching at Wrigley with the wind blowing out.

Both pitchers will face the ultimate test here but Marquez is quite familiar with doing so. Darvish is a risk because of his shaky control from time to time but he comes in with a 13% swing & miss rate that has led to 10.6 K’s/9. Over his last six games, Darvish has allowed more than three earned runs and three walks only once. Darvish’s 50% groundball rate, filthy stuff and strong strikeout rate gives him a fighting chance at this park.

German Marquez is really good so let us put that out there just so you know. There are a couple of nits to pick—Marquez may struggle against better LHB-heavy lineups (Cubs will send four, five or six lefties to start this one), and we're still in the first calendar year of his breakout—but the underlying skills and stuff have been just as impressive as his surface results. We like Marquez a lot and will outline his upside at a later date but for now, this is strictly a “Coors Field” angle play combined with Yu Darvish’s upside
