9:10 PM EST. Walker Buehler (RHP - LAD) has a 4.95 ERA after seven starts with only two of those starts being of the pure quality variety. Thus, it was rather surprising to see Buehler open up as such a significant favorite over a starter that has as much or more credibility that any starter in the game. That caught our attention.

Reliably dominant to an absurd degree, Max Scherzer (RHP- Was) is almost always an auto-play when taking back a price. Last season, Max became the 5th pitcher this century to strike out 300 batters in a season. Scherzer limited his home runs, cut down on walks and continued to excel in generating soft contact--his average exit velocity was 15th-lowest amongst starting pitchers last year, and his soft-hit rate (23.9%) was nearly six points above the league average. He’s not doing worse this year and so it was rather curious to see him taking back nearly +130 when this line opened up. That caught our eye because it’s probably been close to a decade since Scherzer was being offered up at such a generous price. Did the oddsmakers post a bad line? We think not and will now trust the oddsmakers in their decision to “take a position” here. The betting public has hammered the Nats down to their current price of +112. Nats backers beware.
