Masahiro Tanaka (RHP - NYY) is a good pitcher but his propensity for allowing home runs keeps him from becoming elite. For two straight seasons, he has posted a K/9 over 9.0 and a BB/9 near 2.0. His 19.5 K-BB% last year was the 18th best and higher than Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Noah Syndergaard. Tanaka’s hinderance will always be the home runs he allows. Fact is, he’s a very good pitcher who gives up a decent number of home runs.

The Angels are 9-16, which just happens to be the worst record in the AL but a correction to the good is coming. You see, the Halos have struck out the fewest times in all of MLB, meaning they are putting the ball in play more than any other team but the positive results from that have not shown up in the win column yet.

Trevor Cahill (RHP - LAA) has shown good skills thus far, as demonstrated by a 3.34 xERA in his first three starts but he has struggled with two consecutive disaster outings to torpedo his numbers right across the board. One of those starts was in Texas, where no pitcher is immune to getting blown up and the other was at the Big-A against Seattle. In his first three starts, Cahill was outstanding against Milwaukee, Oakland and Seattle.

Speaking of corrections, In their first eight road games, the Yankees have hit will, averaging more than 6 runs per game, with an OPS just below .900. With Clint Frasier, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks, Didi Gregorius and more regulars out of the lineup, the Yanks offensive numbers are heading south and now everything lines up nicely for the Angels to salvage a game.
