8:05 PM EST. Trevor Cahill (RHP) recently was activated from the disabled list, and one could do a lot worse than speculating here. Cahill's skills as a starter in 2018 have been very strong: 8.6 K’s/9, 2.4 BB’s/9, 60% grounders with a great 3,14 xERA. He's missing more bats than ever (13.1 %) but this is mostly a fade against the Rangers and their starter.

The Rangers had a 10-2 lead on Tuesday night and lost 13-10. They had a 5-1 lead last night and also had a 5-4 lead going to the ninth and lost that one too. What happens when they don’t have the lead? Well, these two played on Monday also and Oakland won 15-3 after taking a 5-0 lead after two innings. The Rangers bullpen is a complete and utter mess and when the phone rings, each reliever is praying that call is not for him. That bullpen will also be seeing some action today behind Bartolo Colon (RHP).

Colon’s approach for a long time now has been a case of threading a needle: pinpoint control + tiny strikeouts yield more fly-balls than ever. The 45-year-old Colon's skills remain unchanged with an xERA over 5.00 for the second year in a row. The beefy right-hander’s heavy fly-ball lean does not bode well for any starts he makes in homer-friendly Globe Life Park in Arlington and especially against an A’s team that ranks third in MLB behind Boston and the Yankees in jacks. The A’s have won the first three games of this series and have to be feeling pretty good about coming to the park today.

By contrast, the way the Rangers keep losing has to be taxing both physically and mentally. After losing the first three games of this series and losing seven if its last eight, including two of three to the Orioles, Texas is in big trouble right now led by that brutal pitching staff from top to bottom. In fact, the Rangers have been torched by allowing 65 runs (!) over their past seven games and are likely looking forward to getting to Houston tomorrow with a weekend set against their state rival.
