7:05 PM EST. Win or lose, the Yankees are always going to get the big headlines when they tangle with the Rays and that was the case again last night after catcher Gary Sanchez failed to run out a groundball and cost his team a chance to potentially tie the game in the bottom of the ninth.

That brain fart is another example of why we always preach about the unpredictability of in-game variance. It's what makes it so dangerous to spot a big price on the money line in Major League Baseball. Last night, for example, the Yanks, Indians and Angels were all better than 2-1 favorites and all three lost outright.

Back to the Pinstripers for a minute, as they'll send Masahiro Tanaka (RHP) to the bump in his third start since returning from the DL. Tanaka missed his turn in the rotation on Sunday after a rainout and his start was pushed back two days. When you combine that extra time with the All-Star break, Tanaka hasn't pitched since July 15. In his two appearances back, the 29-year-old has given up twelve hits over 10.2 innings. He did not factor in either decision. Tanaka's last win came way back on June 2nd against the lowly Orioles. Those same O's tagged him for three earned runs over just 4.1 innings on July 10. Tanaka is a big name in the market and you are going to pay a premium to back him, but this is a steep price against a Rays side that has had no problem hanging with the Bronx Bombers as of late.

Even after a fifth straight win over the Yanks, Tampa Bay can't seem to get any respect. The Rays can hit, have an excellent manager and as a whole are much better on the field than the sum of their parts. Tampa is undervalued again today after All-Star Blake Snell was bumped from this start and placed on the DL yesterday. With that, trendsetting manager Kevin Cash will once again start this game by committee with reliever Yonny Chirinos (RHP). Chirinos is back in the bigs after an eight-start stint in Durham. While in Triple-A, the 24-year-old flamed 31 batters in 30.2 frames. Tropicana Field is a pooches paradise, which always makes the home side a threat to cash a nice ticket. We did just that yesterday and will not let up here as long as these ridiculous prices continue to be offered.
