Rich Hill (LHP) did not fare well in his return from the disabled list, allowing five runs on nine baserunners across four innings against the D-backs on May 8. Overall, the 38-year-old Hill has stumbled to a 7.11 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP this season after being one of the best hurlers on a per-start basis in the previous two years. Hill will face what is a perceived as a weak and unimposing Reds lineup but Cincinnati’s .755 OPS against southpaws ranks eighth in baseball. Aside from that, the Dodgers are a mess right now.

Speaking of messes, Luis Castillo’s (RHP) surface stats (6.47 ERA – 1.54) are exactly that, which provides us with another opportunity to cash in on a starter with filthy stuff and pure bad fortune. A ridiculously low 60% strand rate has torpedoed Castillo’s ERA but make no mistake that a massive correction to the good is coming. Castillo has struck out 38 batters in 40 frames with an upper echelon 15% swinging strike rate. His swing and miss rate was even better last game at 20%. Throw in an elite 54% groundball rate. Starters with strikeout dominance, good control and a heavy groundball lean are not only a rare commodity, they do not post ERA’s in the 6½ range. This is an elite starter that is priced like he’s Derek Holland. A must investment.
