9:10 PM EST. It's was a historic night for the Angels in the opener of this series. An Albert Pujols base hit to right field became the future Hall of Famer's 3000th hit. He also passed Roberto Clemente on the all-time list with another knock later in the night. It was likely a long night for the Angels, as the team celebrated that historic accomplishment, but today is a new day. Enter Tyler Skaggs (LHP), whose stock is high this season after posting a 3-2 record with an ERA of 3.03. Skaggs' xERA is a little higher at 3.69, so the goods under the hood support his strong performance. Furthermore, the Halos have now won four straight which is going to make them an appealing play after their hot start to the season but forgive us for not getting too excited about a home sweep of the Orioles. The Angels knocked around veteran Mike Leake last night, but they won't have the luxury of kicking around a tomato can today. Furthermore, the Mariners lineup is wickedly difficult to get through and they’re also very worthy of getting behind at home in evenly priced games like this.

This is not the first time this season that Marco Gonzales (LHP) has shown up on our slate, as we backed him in his last start against the Indians on April 29. Gonzales, who is a former first-round pick gave up just two runs on six hits and got a win that day, but he is still totally under the radar in this market because of his less than stellar 5.02 ERA. However, a deeper look shows us Gonzales' xERA is 2.75 which is a far more accurate representation of how good he's been so far this season. That number is actually better than Charlie Morton and Max Scherzer who are both early season Cy Young candidates. A big reason for Gonzales' success this season has been his command, as he is no longer fighting to locate his pitches since coming back from Tommy John surgery in 2016. Gonzales was once a shooting star prospect, so it's not like the talent isn't there. He's just had an untraditional road to the majors after a quick flash of stardom and then a few years of turbulence. Gonzales' throws both a two and a four-seam fastball and he uses them both to confuse hitters. When he decides to take a little something off the two-seamer, it has a nasty drop. Also in the mix is a nice circle-change that Gonzales uses with his steady dose of fastballs. Gonzales is high on our radar and should not be priced as a coin flip. That provides us with this opportunity.
