MICHIGAN +8½ -109 over Ohio State

Michigan Stadium – Ann Arbor, MI

12:00 PM EST. This rivalry is so big that it is simply referred to as “The Game”. However, Ohio State has rendered this historic feud into a one-sided affair, as they have won the last seven contests, five of which the Bucks triumphed by double digits. Heading into this game, there are several other streaks on the table, which include Ohio State being undefeated, Michigan not losing a game at home this season, and most prevalent, Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh never being able to get a win for his alma mater against their most hated foe.

In the pre-season, Michigan was the talk of the B1G, as many publications had them picked to win the conference with Ohio State undergoing a transitional period with the installation of Ryan Day as Head Coach after Urban Meyer’s retirement. 2019 was supposed to be Michigan’s year. This was also supposed to be the year that Michigan finally got Ohio State. However, mirroring what has been seen out of the Wolverines in preceding seasons, Michigan has once again found a way to be yet another grand disappointment, as the Maize and Blue suffered a nasty blowout loss on the road against Wisconsin along with another setback in Happy Valley against Penn State. As a result of the aforementioned, Michigan once again finds itself removed from the College Football Playoff and B1G conversation for another painstaking year. Accompanying the frustration and pessimism comes murmurs across Ann Arbor calling for the head of the skipper, Jim Harbaugh. Now, there is only way that the Wolverines can salvage their season and Harbaugh can redeem himself from another letdown campaign: beat Ohio State.

According to the media, beating Ohio State will seem like a tall order. The Buckeyes have been characterized as the most complete team in America, as they lead the country in both scoring offense (49.4 points per game) and scoring defense (10.5 points against per match). The media is salivating over this team and has been for weeks. Other talking heads have already declared Ohio State the soon-to-be National Champion and one of the greatest teams in college football history. Such rhetoric as we know far too well cultivates overreactions and inflated prices. It also puts the Buckeyes in a meteoric position where all they can do is plummet. Situationally, this is a scenario primed for such an event to transpire.

The Wolverines are now priced as the biggest underdog they have been season-to-date and this is occurring in its own barn. The price is insulting with the number +9 being hung in the dressing room as further motivation. The Buckeyes’ greatest threats to their unblemished record all had to endure the rigors of facing Ohio State in Columbus, including Cincinnati, Wisconsin, and Penn State. Moreover, Ohio State have a limited slate of action away from the cozy confines of home, as they have played four away games this season against the likes of Indiana, Nebraska, Northwestern, and Rutgers. Three of the previously mentioned opponents have failed to qualify for a bowl game. Now, the Buckeyes will face their toughest test season-to-date and we get the advantage of fading them with enhanced points. Dig in.
