6:00 PM EST. “Modern Day Hate” as it is known in the Peach State exemplifies the modern landscape of college football: two teams forming a millennial-age rivalry by virtue of FCS expansion into the FBS. Despite the contemporary aesthetic to this feud, Southern and State act as if they had been hating each other for over a century. This series has all the makings of a potent rivalry: the away team has won four of the five meetings in this cross-state clash and the underdog has won three of the previous five contests between both sides. With respect to the aforementioned, the visiting Panthers of Georgia State will offer tremendous appeal here as the road pup taking back a touchdown against their counterparts.

We must bring to attention that this market opened with Georgia Southern spotting a notorious favorite-friendly number to the guests. The Eagles were priced initially as a -7½-point choice which incurs backers to dive on the pooch with the premise of a cover should G-State fall by a touchdown. When combining the attractive number with the eye candy trends, Georgia State is in prime position to be an alluring play that can nevertheless yield ugly results.

When comparing the two teams, Georgia State would have to be considered a pleasant surprise given what they have attained this season. The Panthers opened up their campaign with a shocking road win at Tennessee, have gained bowl eligibility, produced a profitable 6-3-2 ATS mark on the year, and produced five upsets when priced as an underdog. Combine it all and it spells appealing. 

Contrarily, Georgia Southern has won three of its five FBS wins this year by a field goal margin (two of which required overtime). Southern could’ve easily been on the tail-end of a losing season under differing circumstances and that narrative diminishes the stock of this outfit. However, it is worth noting that one of the previously mentioned victories was earned against the big dog of the Sun Belt yard, Appalachian State on the road in Boone, North Carolina. Retrospectively, this outcome is the most impressive win for either team this season.

When comparing how the two sides fared against the Mountaineers, App State hung 56 points on the Panthers at G-State two weeks ago when they routed the Panthers by 29 points. Against Georgia State, the Mountaineers also ran for over 280 yards on the ground. On the flip-side, Georgia Southern out-gained App State 335 yards to the Mountaineers’ 152 and the rest is history concerning Southern’s 24-21 upset of the mighty Mounties. The Eagles will deploy their patented option attack here again in a favorable match-up and we suspect they will chew up Georgia State’s porous rushing defense and control this game in all phases. That’s X’s and O’s and if it plays out that way, don’t say we didn’t warn you. What interests us more than the X’s and O’s is the price the books hung up here on a popular underdog and when the underdog is popular, we’re screaming at the top of our lungs, BUYER BEWARE! Swallow the points, the line says so.
