HAWAII -3 over Army

Aloha Stadium – Honolulu, HI

12:30 AM EST. Citing the “expert advice” featured in some “free picks” offered by some individuals, the Alohas are a prime fade target this week because they come into this contest off their biggest win on the season when they defeated San Diego State by way of a field goal in a hard-fought victory. Combining that with the lookahead aspect of the Rainbow Warriors punching a ticket to their first ever Mountain West Conference Championship appearance against the fabled Boise State Broncos, the Warriors have been sold low to bolster a play on the Black Knights. In the sales pitch for backing Army, said expert advice also entails that the United States Armed Forces Academy are the correct play here because the Cadets have ample military support in Hawaii and they also beat the Rainbow Warriors last year by a touchdown and thus, the 2019 edition of Army should be able to do the same. The play is then reinforced by a reiteration of Hawaii looking ahead to the MWC title game and resting players in preparation. Conducting a critical analysis, we can break down why this argument is null-and-void and suggest to you why Hawaii is the actual right play here.

To begin, last week was not Hawaii’s biggest win of the season. Hawaii was favored to win against San Diego State. Why? Because the Alohas have one of the biggest home field advantages working for them perhaps in all of college football. Travelling across two time zones and over 2,500 miles is a tough order for a team like San Diego State to handle. You can also ask Arizona who opened up in Honolulu as a double-digit favorite and fell outright to the hosts. Let’s extrapolate that position and apply it to a team like Army who has to travel nearly 5,000 miles across five time zones to play this game. Travel fatigue alone could cause the Knights to come in flat.

Furthermore, Hawaii likely had this date circled on their calendar as it is an opportunity to avenge last year’s loss. The 50th State does not have a professional sports team, thus, the Warriors are their pride and joy and we anticipate the atmosphere to be energetic as always. Additionally, this year’s Army team has looked like a shadow of its former self compared to last year’s edition. Last year’s Black Knights broke the 10-win threshold. This year’s outfit may not make a bowl. Furthermore, Army has won just one game on the road this season against a true creampuff in UTSA. This Hawaii team is 5-2 SU on its own field and it has beaten better teams than the one they’ll see here. We now get the host at a truly deflated price because the media has influenced the public into thinking that Hawaii will show up in body only. We’re not buying that for a second.
