#336 IOWA -3 -106 over Minnesota

Kinnick Stadium - Iowa City, AI

4:00 PM EST. We’re not even going to discuss Iowa much here because this isn’t about them although the Hawkeyes are a quality program that are very likely licking their chops to get a shot at the Gophers. We are too and this is that shot. Before we discuss the Gophers, it is worth noting that the Hawkeyes are 0-3 against ranked teams this year (Michigan, Penn St and Wisky) but make no mistake that they could have won all three just as easily. The narrative now is that Iowa can’t beat quality or ranked teams and the Gophers are now ranked 20th after its epic win over Penn State last week.

Minnesota is without question the flavor of the week. P.J. Fleck has become an overnight sensation with his “Row the Boat” culture being a topic of discussion once again. Cult is short for culture. Truth be told, is other than beating a sloppy Penn State team last week, the Gophers have beaten nobody. They beat San Diego State and Wyoming to open the year, barely, winning each by one score. The Gophers than beat Georgia State by 3 and Purdue by 7. That’s four, one score games to open the year. They could’ve easily been 0-4 and then we wouldn’t be discussing this cult for a minute.

You’ll then have to excuse us while we crap our pants in awe over the Gophers next four wins over Illinois, Nebraska, Rutgers and Maryland. Playing the easiest schedule among all Power 5 schools, the Gophers are 5-0 in one-score games this season, but they've been fortunate late in these games. They could be just as easily be 4-5. Even against the Nittany Lions, Minnesota was ultimately outgained by 58 yards but had a two-turnover advantage. The market believes what the media is heavily preaching this week that P.J. Fleck has recruited an array of talent as well, but we’re not buying that BS for a second. The Gophers lag behind in the trenches. The lines, especially on the offensive side, have great size but not enough athleticism and technique, and the pedestrian rushing attack will render the Gophers fatally one-dimensional against the better defenses in the Big Ten. The defense relies too much on a small number of difference-makers and is still building Big Ten-caliber depth across the board. We’re now thrilled to fade the Gophers off their biggest program win in 50 years. P.J.’s cult is still celebrating. Row the Boat this!
