3:30 PM EST. Last week, Coastal Carolina came out of its open date and, fresh or not, the Chanticleers were flat for the first half of a 45-20 loss to Louisiana-Monroe. The Chanticleers have a good attitude this week, even coming off a loss that featured some stretches of bad play and plenty of self-inflicted wounds. We like their chances to get right back on the horse out forth a clean, strong effort against a defense that can’t get off the field. Coastal has by no means racked up obnoxious penalty yardage this year but this coaching staff and program is so focused on winning and attention to details that they brought in extra officials at practice this week. There is a lot to like about this program under former Wall Street baron Joe Moglia, and it's one we've been actively looking for opportunities to back and we trust we’ve found another one here. This is a well-coached outfit with a strong culture, and a rising program in the Sun Belt.

Then there’s UMass. The Minutemen surely have more market appeal than this unknown program in its first season in the FBS. UMass has had some exposure this year too, as they have already played Boston College, FIU and South Florida and while they got whacked in those games, they did put up 21 against BC, 24 against FIU and 42 against USF. To that we say big deal because a lot of the yards and points were meaningless, as the Minutemen surrendered 55, 63 and 58 points to those three programs respectively. UMass’s two wins have come against Charlotte and Duquesne. This outfit is basically what it has been for years: a poorly coached house of cards that racks up meaningless points against good competition and wins against horrible competition. The Minutemen have some playmakers but this defense is a utter mess and the team overall is not good enough to be spotting points to a much more balanced, structured and superior squad coming off a bad week.
