Southern Illinois -2½ +100 over EVANSVILLE

7:00 PM EST. Over at Pinny, we can sell a half point and take the Salukis up to -2½ +100. Look for the best line and sell points if you have to in order to avoid spotting a little extra vig because this is a bargain of a price on the vastly superior team.

Evansville is 3-6 but its three wins have come against IUPUI, DePauw, a Division II or Division III team and finally Eastern illinois. In between those three garbage victories, the Purple Aces lost to Cincinnati by 23, to Belmont by 38 (81-43), To UCF by 16, to Rice in triple OT, to Vermont by nine and to Akron by nine. This is a weak Missouri Valley team with limited options with which to work with. They should be getting closer to 10 here instead of closer to zero. The price is so cheap because the market is not yet aware of how dangerous and improved the Salukis are we’re the beneficiaries of 358 teams scattered throughout the country.

At the start of last year, NOT this year, the Salukis ranked 341st in experience and 286th in Minutes Continuity, per KenPom. Even with the lack of experience, some publications and experts  still had high hopes for this Southern Illinois team in head coach Bryan Mullins’ second season. However, that optimism slowly dwindled as the team was hit hard by COVID and devastating injuries. The Salukis lost highly-touted JUCO transfer JD Muila to an injury prior to the start of the season and then, they lost star sophomore Marcus Domask to a season-ending injury in early January. With both forwards back and getting progressively better each game, SIU also returns every primary contributor and over 98% of its minutes from last season. SIU is an under-the-radar 3-3 thus far. As an 11-point dog against Colorado, the Salukis won outright. Against Creighton, they lost by a mere two points. Buried beneath all the high profile games is this nothing game between two mid-majors that nobody gives a crap about but it’s the type of low-profile game we seek out nightly because the value is off the charts.
