Note the early start time and also note that this game will take place on a neutral floor at the McArthur Center in Saint Petersburg where the Ball State Cardinals are getting way too much credit here. Ball State is a weak MAC team with one win in three tries thus far after games against Georgia Southern (an 11-point loss), Omaha (a 4-point win) and Florida International (a 13-point loss). Trust us when we inform you that Weber State is superior to both FIU and Georgia Southern. There is a noticeable lack of talent on the Cardinals roster and an absence of a true creator and/or go-to scorer, thus KenPom has Ball State ranked 284th in the country while Weber State is ranked 101st in the country. That does not equate to a 10-point fav, it equates to something far greater. 

Weber State returns three double-figure scorers (plus three more who averaged 7+), but you can never have too much firepower. As such, coach Randy Rahe once again dipped into the portal pond to bring in Koby McEwen and Jamison Overton, two more prolific bucket-getters with ties to the state. McEwen began his career at Utah State before a Big East cameo at Marquette, while Overton poured in 16 a game for a Utah Valley team that went 9-4 in the WAC.

Weber is favored to take down the Big Sky championship and earn an auto-bid. This team is 3-0 out of the gate, which included victories over Duquesne and UMass, the latter by 15. Rahe is the baron of Big Sky coaches, having broken the record for most conference wins back in 2018, and he’s loaded this year with vets and talent. Adding McEwen and Overton, though, is like a multi-millionaire winning another seven figures on a scratch-off: it just feels gratuitous. Much like those winnings could buy another fleet of cars or a luxury yacht, Weber’s newest weapons could win Rahe a couple more Big Sky crowns and a 4th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wildcats have the talent, depth, scoring punch, and scheme to get it done and we have no idea how the garbage Cardinals stay within this range. This is an underpriced favorite.
