Prairie View A&M +13 over GRAND CANYON

9:00 PM EST. Not only did Bryce Drew’s Grand Canyon squad win the WAC regular season, but it also swept NMSU 3-0 and won the conference’s auto-bid to the NCAA Tournament. But this wasn’t just a good “WAC” team – this was a good college basketball team. The Lopes beat Nevada in the non-conference slate, lost to Arizona State by just 1, San Francisco by 3, and Colorado by 10. However, 2021-22 is going to be more challenging, as GCU loses its two 1st Team All-WAC big men, who demanded so much attention and gravity from opposing defenders that it made scoring a breeze (they helped immensely defensively, as well). Drew brings talented reinforcements from the transfer portal, but the makeup and style of the Lopes is going to look very different.

The Antelopes are 2-0 to kick off this season. Add in their stalwart record from last year and an impressive showing at the Dance and their stock is soaring. We would be remiss not to mention that GCU has two wins against two marshmallows with the last being by 14. While we like the ‘Lopes” and their crazy fan base known as the Havocs, they are absolutely overpriced here because the opposition comes in with an 0-5 record and we all know how much emphasis is put on wins and losses. Opportunity knocks.

Prairie View is indeed 0-5 but they lost to Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, Michigan, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. All five of those teams are ranked 41st or better in the country and all five might be dancing in March. Prairie View comes in as the most battle tested team in America and very prepared to take a massive step down in class. It’s not like the Panthers are some shit-ass team either. They’re favored to win the SWAC; they bring back four starters from last year’s great team and with a day off between games, we’re betting they’ll easily come in under the number here. Five games played early is an advantage and not a hindrance.
