High Point -105 over LONGWOOD

6:00 PM EST. Longwood has played 17 games and has registered just four wins while High Point has three wins in 10 games but we’re strongly suggesting that the visitor is the superior side despite what yesterday’s score says. Longwood beat High Point yesterday by a score of 75-54 and today, in the same matchup, the winning side from yesterday is spotting nothing. That’s a tempting wager but don’t be fooled by one score. High Point could not make a shot the entire game and it’s as simple as that. They were flat as can be but lightning is unlikely to strike twice for the Lancers of Longwood.

Last season, the Lancers ranked 319th in KenPom while playing one of the softest schedules in the country. This year the Lancers have been doing battle without three of their key starters from 2019-20: JaShaun Smith and Shabooty Phillips graduated, and Jordan Cintron transferred to Niagara. The Lancers are a team to keep an eye on next year because they’re in good hands with HC Griff Aldrich, but they sorely lack the talent to compete on a daily basis.

High Point lost to Davidson by nine. They lost to Elon by one point and they also lost to UNC Asheville in OT. When they got smoked last night it was after a 19-day layoff while Longwood played four days prior. Tubby Smith’s High Point Panthers were one of the youngest teams in the country last season, a key reason he found his program at the bottom of the Big South standings when all was said and done. After a strong first season at HPU, Tubby’s Panthers tanked in the national rankings, finishing a woeful 341st per the almighty KenPom. This season, High Point returned all five starters (exclusive of Curtis Holland) and are led by one of the best guards in the Big South. He also has frontcourt depth for days. Let’s just toss out yesterday’s loss and attribute it to ring rust. High Point is older and more athletic this season and due for some serious positive shooting regression on both ends of the floor. This team is capable of competing in the middle of a crowded Big South and certainly capable of bouncing back here. The line says so.
